CONSTRUCTION OF ALAT AZAD ECONOMIC ZONE WILL BEGIN SOON

By the decree signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, on May 22, 2020, the Alat Free Economic Zone - a trade and logistics center located in the Alat settlement on the Caspian Sea coast was established. The territory of the newly created free economic zone covers the lands located in the administrative territory of Garadagh district, 65 kilometers south of Baku, part of the Alat settlement. Baku International Sea Trade Port, the largest Caspian port in Alat settlement, is included in the areas allocated for the use of the Alat Free Economic Zone.

AFEZ will initially cover an area of about 850 hectares, spread over three areas. Two of the sites, Zone 1 (198 ha) and Zone 2 (441 ha), are adjacent to Baku Port and have a total area of 639 ha. The third area is located in Zone 3 (211 ha), 7 km from Baku Port.

The development strategy implemented by the AFEZ Office is to establish a phased AFEZ. The first stage of development will be in Phase 1. The starting 60 ha (FAZ 1a) is being built on a high area adjacent to the highway and the port entrance. Upon completion, FAZ 1a will consist of five different components:

The main entrance of the Customs Plaza and AFEZ,
AFEZ Office Building and a one-stop business center for investors,
Pre-office location for investors,
Shovel-ready areas for investors to rent,
Utility center.

The physical development program is on schedule. Given that there are no delays due to Covid-19 restrictions, these are key dates. Construction of the first office building will begin in March 2021. Phase 1a will be completed and will be open for work with serviced industries.

Phase 2.1 of the project is planned until 2022, where the adjacent 84 hectares will be developed with a number of new areas for jobs.
